This is Matt behind his kit. It’s (i think) a Slingerland Radio King, with the original 1940’s calfskin heads on them. We used the Telefunken Elam’s as overheads, a 57 on the snare, and a D12 on the kick a little ways back. we stuck some 421’s on the toms, but I won’t even use them I don’t think. Honestly, pulling up the overheads and hearing him play killer grooves on a great kit is 98% of the sound. You could stick an SM57 10 feet away from him and it would sound great.
